Personality: The first impression you'll get of Felix is that of a mostly decent guy. One with an ego, definitely, but otherwise loyal, brave, and just very personable. The type of guy who can definitely be something of an ass, but you're sure his heart is in the right place, and damn it if he isn't fun to hang out with. Within a single conversation, he'll convince you he's your new best friend and you won't think twice about believing every word he says. Right up until the moment he slides a knife into your back.
Felix is one hell of an actor and he makes great use of that skill in his line of work. From the moment we meet him in season 11, he's putting up an act. He has the entire New Republic convinced he's on their side and it doesn't take long before he gets the Reds and Blues believing it too. He gets the crew of the Tartarus from distrusting him to talking and laughing with him like old friends in no time at all. It isn't just that he's a really good liar. Hell, he doesn't even need to lie that much at all. He knows how to control a conversation. Every move he makes, every word he speaks, is calculated. He's even willing to make a sacrifice to win someone's trust, as he was perfectly fine with getting shot in the leg if it meant appearing more trustworthy.
He doesn't make up an entire personality, of course. Whether his in our out of character, he's got a good sense of humor and is prone to sarcastic quips - it's just that his quips are entirely more mean-spirited when he's not pretending to be a nice guy. He always has an ego, proclaiming "I am fucking awesome!" after killing someone with a knife throw and saying he might be "too good-looking". It's all part of his natural... let's call it charm. It's just that when he's acting, he pretends to be more of a standoffish snarker. When he's just being himself, he's anything but reserved - instead, you'll need a goddamn miracle to shut him up and his body language becomes much more energetic.
But his cool mercenary act is so convincing he has everyone, including most of the audience, completely fooled. But Felix doesn't have a secret heart of gold. Even when he was pretending to be one of the good guys, there are signs he doesn't care one bit. He calls losing the lives of two men for information a good trade and makes it clear he's just there to get paid. In truth, he doesn't give a shit about anyone. The closest relationship he has is with Locus and even that's mostly because they just work so well together. They balance each other out, but they hate each other's guts. And if there were any doubts about how little he cares for other people, it's important to remember that Felix has zero qualms about killing the population of an entire planet. Human life isn't at all important to him and it's part of what makes him so dangerous. Locus might be the more obviously intimidating of the two, but he kills because it's part of the job, because it's what he was ordered to do, because it's what needs to be done. Felix? Felix will kill you because he had a bad morning.
And also for the job. Oh, Felix loves being a mercenary. First of all for the money. He doesn't care why he's been hired to do something, he just cares that he gets paid in the end. In his own words, he wants to be rich enough when he retires to buy a TV the size of a billboard. But don't think a paycheck is all he cares about. He even says himself that he's still in his prime. Felix really does enjoy doing what he does. "At the end of the day, if I'm stronger than you and if I'm faster than you, than I can kill you! And that's better than anything money can buy." It's about the thrill of the job just as much as the money. Even when the Captain of the Tartarus hits the alarm and Felix has to take down the crew, he states he had more fun because of it.
But he's not perfect. He's definitely a very skilled fighter, good at controlling both the flow of a conversation and combat, but there's a reason he still hasn't gotten his paycheck. For one, Felix talks entirely too much. He loves the sound of his own voice and can't stop himself from chatting - even with his enemies. And he can never resist an opportunity to gloat. He has an ego the size of a planet, so he loves talking himself up and everyone else down. It's his undoing at the end of season 12, as it allows Tucker to record his speech and show it to everyone on the planet.
And Felix does not take this well. At all. It's the first time we see him actually speechless. He has an almost obsessive need for control. And when he loses that control, he also loses his shit. Rather than a smug comment or a witty quip, he just screams at Tucker that he's dead for doing this. Another weakness, and also another reason why Tucker managed to get the better of him, is that Felix can underestimate others. He never thinks much of the Reds and Blues, but they get the better of him. He thinks he has Tucker cornered and treats their entire fight like a game, but it's Tucker (together with Epsilon) who blows apart his plan. Even on the Tartarus, while he's slaughtering the crew, someone almost gets a shot off on him, because Felix turned his back to the soldier and left his entire neck completely exposed. If that soldier hadn't been a terrible shot, Felix might've died then and there.
Still, he might be overconfident and way too chatty, but he's not an idiot. If he was, he never would've lasted as a mercenary. He really is an excellent fighter, especially at close range. And he's more perceptive than you might expect, as he was the first to notice when Carolina infiltrated their ranks for the second time - not Locus. He might fail sometimes, but Felix is always dangerous.
